Durham County Schools’ launched their 2018/2019 Cup competition, with the help of Durham County’s Young Match Officials.
One round of matches has already taken place, with 18 events hosted across Durham County. The events have been taking place on Wednesday evenings with school groups YR 7, 8 and 9 all entering teams.

Three finals have also been hosted across various venues in Durham County with the schools playing for the Cup, Plate and Shield. The results of the finals are as follows –

These events have not only been successful for the students playing rugby, but also for the Young Match Officials (YMO’s) who have been able to gain valuable experience.
92 Students have completed the Quilter Kids 1st Refereeing for Children and 20 have completed the England Rugby Referee Award through the YMO’s programme.
Students from St Johns School and Durham Johnston Comprehensive School have helped to referee the County Cup games, with great knowledge and confidence. These YMO’s have received support and mentoring from the Durham County Referee Society.
